On Monday, 23 April, the finalists of VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence attended a traditional Afternoon tea at the Bath Assembly Rooms (for further details see our April issue, page 4). In the absence of a Glamping Provider of the Year award for 2018’s celebration of Britain’s tourism industry, Open Air Business was rooting for a number of businesses within other categories because of their excellent glamping facilities.
While glamping providers were welcome this year into either the Holiday Park/Holiday Village or Self Catering Holiday Provider categories, depending on which was more relevant to their setup, there was not a separate category for it due to the fact it attracted significantly less applicants than other categories when VisitBritain trialled it out last year.
That aside, we are delighted to announce that two of these – Alkham Court Farmhouse in Kent and Laverock Law Cottages in Northumberland – scooped Gold for Bed & Breakfast of the Year and the Sustainable Tourism Award respectively.
VisitEngland chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “These awards shine a spotlight on our fantastic tourism industry, with the winners showcasing the quality, innovation and excellence on offer throughout the country.”
