While many should be preparing for holidays abroad, 2020 travel restrictions have meant that, for the most part, British vacationers are trading their foreign getaways for something a little closer to home. Recent trends have also shown an increasing number of British landowners looking to invest in staycation properties.

Maximise your opportunities by considering a Pullman carriage or hut to host guests and staycationers, providing a unique experience that can be enjoyed again and again. The team at Pullman Carriages build both carriages and shepherds huts to a customer’s specifications and deliver ready to plumb in, connect and get you earning immediately with the minimum of fuss.

Built to withstand all weathers, these carriages have a very sturdy structural frame, insulation and double glazing, allowing them to be rented out year round.

EASY INSTALL EXPANDABLE GLAMPING PODS

The focus on the domestic travel market in response to Covid-19 has opened up a world of opportunity for entrepreneurial landowners. The new expandable glamping pod from The Green Pod Company has the ability to be sited almost anywhere, offering spacious, luxury accommodation based around the core of a shipping container. The structure features a push-in/pull-out gliding extension allowing for easy transportation, installation and the ability to be locked up, and even stacked for storage.

Originally designed for a remote mountainside site in the Scottish Highlands with poor access, the pods are able to withstand all weathers and operate all year round. They feature recycled materials, low U-values and are entirely designed and built in the UK using British suppliers.

A wide choice of finishes ensures structures blend into any landscape. As for ROI, their long lifespan and easy relocation gives landowners endless flexibility with their glamping offering.

PREFABRICATED OR FLAT PACK BOTHIES

Bothy StoresBothy Stores

www.bothystores.com

The Bothy Stores range of bothies are made from fully insulated modular cassettes that bolt together easily to form the finished building. The first choice you have is whether you would like to have the bothy delivered to you fully assembled or flat packed to be erected on site.

The prefabricated bothy is assembled off-site in our workshop, ready for delivery to site by low-bed HIAB truck. Installation can be completed in a single day, which minimises on-site disruption and labour costs. For this option, the truck must be able to access and pull alongside the site.

The flat pack option is useful for less accessible locations in back gardens or up hillsides, as the modular cassettes can be carried or transported to site by off-road vehicle. The bothies are extremely quick to erect, reducing on-site construction time and the risk of weather disruption whilst also minimising the impact on the landscape.

FLEXIBLE OUTDOOR LOUNGE SPACE

With a finite amount of time and money, flexibility is what you need to be able to achieve the best from any investment in your glampsite. Hunter Outdoors’ Shady Spot setups are created with flexibility in mind. When you buy one, you’re really buying many; it’s just like Lego! And they can be erected by one person with no power tools.

For instance, a Shady Spot triple lounge, as seen at the Glamping Show, creates three lounge spaces around a central space for a fire pit. However, using the same kit of parts you can also create a 9x3m long dining space, 6x3m dining space, two separate 3x3m lounges or a 6x6m activity space – you already have the parts for each option.

This gives the flexibility to reconfigure small Shady Spots for multiple glamping units into a dining room for a private wedding function, or even a classroom for a yoga retreat!

CONNECTING TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD

Scotia CabinsScotia Cabins

Owing to fears around public health in shared spaces when flying, using swimming pools, dining areas etc. it is estimated that there will continue to be a decline in foreign travel for some time.

Instead people will continue to choose to ‘staycate’ in the UK and seek accommodation where they have the option to cook and relax in close family/friend groups rather than in close quarters with other people.

Many will be seeking to swap the warmth and light of their homes for an experience that embraces the rewarding feel and ambience that connecting to the outdoor world can bring. Indeed, it is easy to miss, or not even be aware of, the glories of our northern temperate climate.

Scotia Cabins’ structures are a halfway house that connects the staycation audience to that outdoor spirit, while still keeping them safe, warm and dry. They provide all year round protection and space where guests can eat and drink, sharing with family and friends an experience on the edge of that magical frontier between full 21st century domesticity and the world beyond.

CREATING UNIQUE, EXPERIENTIAL GLAMPSITES

Enchanted CreationsEnchanted Creations

With a background designing and building experiential attractions in zoos, safari parks, theme parks, farm attractions and other mainstream visitor attractions, Enchanted Creations’ founder Jason Devenish’s mission is to help glamping and alternative accommodation operators realise that they too are a destination. They need to offer something unique and experiential to stand out and become a successful business.

“Why do I think mediocre glamping sites are on a race to the bottom?” he says. “Why do I believe that differentiating yourself is so important today? Quite simply, we find ourselves in the ‘experience economy’, and we can’t ignore it.

“Consumers and guests are increasingly looking for unique, Instagrammable and memorable staycation experiences, while landowners and hoteliers are realising they need to diversify to survive. What a great opportunity to create sustainable, stand out glamping businesses with longevity!

“So, if you’re considering starting a glamping site, consider carefully. Why would you choose something that’s average or that can be found elsewhere? Why not create something unique and increase your value, increase repeat business and maintain longevity in the marketplace.”

A unique roof design and modular system gives the new Retreat Lodge from Clear Sky a distinctive look. The compact, flexible design can be laid out to fit a customer’s needs. It features two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and veranda on a total surface of 40m2, offering plenty of space to accommodate four guests comfortably.

The hardwood frame is combined with a steel-constructed roof and the modular system allows a choice of different wall materials, window sizes and the ability to arrange the space in a variety of ways.

The steel-constructed roof strengthens the tent so it can withstand wind gusts of force 10 on the Beaufort scale. The roof edge is also fitted with steel cable tensioners and specially designed corner tensioners for a secure fit.

Together with the Retreat Lodge, Clear Sky has launched a new interior style to match. ‘Pure’ combines industrial elements with vintage accents. It pairs wood and steel with muted tones of grey for a clean and timeless look. Its vintage details soften the mood and make the style suitable for any occasion and setting.
