Glampsite: Wallace Lane Farm, Cumbria
Description: A 23 acre site set in the magnificent Northern Lakes offering glamping safari tents, lodges and cabins plus pitches for camping/caravans and holiday cottages
Product supplied: A 90 person wastewater treatment system servicing the whole site including the cottages

Details: The Septic Tank Store was contacted by John Stanyer who wanted to replace his two existing septic tanks for a cleaner, more eco-friendly system. Discussing the requirements during a visit, a treatment system was sized that serviced the entire site while taking into account John’s environmental concerns.

Wallace Lane PathwayThe month of the installation was unseasonably wet. To protect the existing site the Septic Tank Store team laid boards and, due to the tight access, had to use smaller equipment – an 8 tonne excavator rather than a 14 tonne machine.

When the tank was concreted in, the land was levelled for future seeding. The team installed all the electrics and set up the system so that the clean effluent from the tank could discharge safely into the nearby watercourse.

Feedback: John said: “A top class firm, just what I needed. They did a difficult install of a big tank with poor access and left little disturbance. Importantly, they were pleasant to have on site and were tidy workers considering the weather. The treatment plant looks very good and has worked well for over a year.”

Echo Living at St Andrew’s University

Echo LivingCompany: Glampsan (a division of Plastic Solutions Aldridge)
Telephone: 0800 999 6010

Glampsite: Echo Living at St Andrew’s University
Description: A completely off-grid office, meeting space and accommodation unit for four researchers at the Eden Campus, St Andrew’s University

Products used: A 160-gallon Mini Tuff Tank in the loft space for non-potable water to supply the kitchenette and shower room. A 500-gallon Flat Tuff Tank installed beneath the decking area for waste collection. Two level alarms installed to monitor the liquid levels in each tank

Details: As a slight contrast to Echo Living’s normal small building solution for glampsites and alternative living, this small but fully functioning office and meeting space sits on an exposed site, its size contrasting with the impressively scaled warehouses on the side of the Eden Estuary, five miles west of St Andrews. Completely off-grid, the wooden structure has no connection to mains services, either water or waste, and is similar in design to many glamping units.

Echo LivingEden Campus Energy Centre is central to the University’s aim to be the UK’s first carbon neutral university and a low carbon exemplar. The office acts as a hub for the campus as it develops and accommodates four researchers at adjustable standing desks, a kitchenette, meeting space, external patio, shower room, store cupboard, entrance foyer and covered entrance porch.

Glampsan provided the Mini Tuff Tank for non-potable water and the Tuff Tank for the collection of waste. Each storage tank is filled and emptied by tankers currently servicing other areas of the site.

Feedback: Sam Booth of Echo Living said: “Glampsan is a great company to deal with. We explained the nature of the project and found them extremely knowledgeable and quick to r
espond. They gave us great advice and offered a perfect and reasonably priced solution. We really appreciated their help and highly recommend them to others”.
