Devon-based company Candled has launched a patented LED flame technology that gives the feel and quality of a real flame without any of the health and safety issues. The artificial flame mimics the spectral quality of a traditional candle, replicating the flickering of a real flame. Made from real wax, the candle itself is hard to distinguish from the real thing.
The LED candle has no naked flame nor does it generate any heat so is safe to use in all environments, including inside marquees, tents, under duvets for night time reading and even outside in wind and rain. It has an expected life of 50,000 hours (equivalent to burning about 7,000 traditional candles), has four levels of brightness and can be operated by remote control.
Director Justin Carey and his team spent two years studying flame dynamics to perfect the technology, which evens ‘dies’ like a real flame when turned off. Co-director Dr Robin Cotton says: “We are excited to bring this product to market after such extensive research and development. I am confident that this is the best artificial candle on the market and is perfect for the glamping and marquee function venue market as it gives the reality of a candle without any health and safety headaches. We have been working closely with the National Trust too as the Candled product offers the perfect solution for lighting historic houses authentically.” www.candled.co.uk
