Details: Owned by MDL Marinas, Mercury Yacht Harbour is a stunning marina set in a sheltered woodland site where Badnam Creek meets the River Hamble. Adjacent to the site is a campsite with touring facilities and self-catering accommodation. To take advantage of the trend for glamping style accommodation in picturesque locations, the company commissioned the construction of holiday lodges set on to pontoons in the water.
The most complex element of the build of three floating lodges overlooking the river was the discharge of waste from the units that each contain a kitchen and bathroom. After contacting Saniflo’s technical team for advice, a site visit was organised to assess the waste discharge issue.
Representatives from Trojan Timber, the lodge manufacturer, and Intermarine, the pontoon supplier, met a Saniflo technician and highlighted the challenge. The solution was to install a Sanibest Pro macerator behind each WC which was also able to take waste from the shower, basin and kitchen sink. This would connect to discharge pipework from the side of the lodge which ran under the service cover along the main jetty, ultimately draining into a Sanifos 280 lifting station installed under an adjacent jetty. Waste is pumped through underwater pipes up the side of the jetty wall into the mains drains.
