International not for profit organisation A Greener Festival (AGF) has announced the 34 winners of the 11th A Greener Festival Award and the first Greener Event Awards from summer 2017.
Festivals and events from 12 countries participated in the award, with applicants undergoing a rigorous assessment, site visit and post event analysis of their event’s sustainability actions. Events are assessed on 11 main areas including transport, waste, power, water, and local area impacts.
An awards ceremony for winners was held at Eurosonic Noorderslag, Netherlands, on 18 January. Among the winners classified as Outstanding were UK events Green Gathering and Wood Festival. In the Highly Commended category were the Cambridge Folk Festival, Greenbelt Festival, and HebCelt.
Robin Bennett, organiser of Wood Festival, said: “Ever since we started we’ve wanted Wood Festival to be an inspiring example of sustainability in action. Working with A Greener Festival gives us an objective, fair assessment of how we’re doing and, with their help and support, we keep trying to improve. We are thrilled to be judged Outstanding just in time for our 10th anniversary!”
Applications are now open for the Greener Festival Award 2018. Events should contact hello@agreenerfestival.com to apply.
